It's been so long...

Hi! It's the Monsters' Human here. Now that I have figured out how to log back in, I wanted to give a brief update.

In December 2009, we moved to a neighboring city and into a townhouse. It has a wonderful set of stairs that the kitties love to sprint up and down. As they are all over the age of 10 and are senior citizens, they have napping down to an art after a few laps on the stairs. They are enjoying the house and have made it their own.

The sad news is that Lizzie is no longer with us. In April she started refusing to eat and was taking extended naps. So, I took her into the sweet kitteh only vet near us and some bloodwork showed some weird stuff. So then I took her to the critical care vet and unfortunately they found a few lumps along with the weird bloodwork. There wasn't really anything that could be done, so I took brought her back home for a couple of days and then had to help her to the Rainbow Bridge. We all miss her so much, but we know that she is waiting for us in a better place.

We hope that all of our friends in the computer are doing well!

Lizzie: Knightly! What have you done to my octopus that Scooby, Shaggy, and Scout gave to me?

Knightly: Well, you see, I have heard that octopus tastes good so I had to give it a try.

Lizzie: This isn't a real octopus! It's a toy - MY toy! And you have ruined it!

Mom: Knightly, you need to apologize to Lizzie. You should not have eaten her toy. You know you aren't allowed to eat that kind of stuff.

Knightly: I am sorry, Lizzie. To make it better, why don't I just eat the last leg off so he will look better?

Lizzie: Hmmph! I think you owe me a new toy.

Mom: I agree. Knightly, no treats for you until we find another octopus.

Every so often, we check Mom's email to make sure that she is behaving herself. Sometimes she get questionable content such as the one below. We have added our comments to this.

PET RULES (Yes we do rule - however we make rules for our humans to follow)

To be posted VERY LOW on the refrigerator door - snout height. (Yes, it makes it easier to shred)

Dear Dogs and Cats,
The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. (Too bad for you, it's all our food!) Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate of food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest. (too bad!)

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. (It is too - just ask Max and Buddah) Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run. (exactly, then you can get us treats faster)

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king-sized bed. (two king size beds together would be perfect) I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. (but that is what we like best so you can hang off of the bed) I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm. (that's the best part)

For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. (some have exit windows like the Meezers' bathroom) If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. (the rule is - no closed doors) I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years --canine or feline attendance is not mandatory. (you must be supervised)

The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough! (but we like to share)

To pacify you, my dear pets, I have posted the following message on our
front door:

To All Non-Pet Owners Who Visit &Like to Complain About Our Pets
1. They live here. You don't.
2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture.
(That's why they call it "fur"niture.)
3. I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.
4. To you, it's an animal. To me, he/she is an a dopted son/daughter who
is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly.

Remember: Dogs and cats are better than kids because they:

1. Eat less
2. Don't ask for money all the time
3 Are easier to train (that's because we train you)4. Usually come when called (yeah, whatever)
5. Never drive your car
6. Don't hang out with drug-using friends (two words: Catnip Anonymous)
7. Don't smoke or drink (we will take all the milk we can get)
8. Don't worry about having to buy the latest fashions (fur is always in fashion as long as it's on an animal)
9. Don't wear your clothes (humans wouldn't need clothes if they had fur like us)
10. Don't need a gazillion dollars for college, (not for collge, but we do need it for nip and treats) and
11. If they get pregnant, you can sell their children.

We will be screening our Mom's emails a bit more carefully from now on. She doesn't need to get any more ideas.

Another vacation?!

Well, Mum is going on another vacation. Just after she lets us get back on the 'puter, she is packing it up and taking it with her to some place called A-lass-kaa. We don't know where it is, but she is packing winter clothes since she is going out on a glay-sur. Grandma and Opa are going to be with her and lots of other family too - ones that we haven't even met yet. She is going to be gone for 2 whole weeks!! The only good thing is that we will have the 24 hour buff-et. Here's a pict of me helping Mum pack.

Hmmph...blogger is not being nice. Oh, here it is finally....

I also wanted to thank Fat Eric for the great stuff he sent us back in May. The treats are gone already, but we lovelovelove the treat ball. Thankfully, he has been freed from the kitty jail that his humans put him in while on holiday. Thank you Fat Eric!!

Well, I have to go since Mum needs to get on the 'puter.

Well, I have to tell everyone about what happened to my big brother, Knightly. As was told last week, Knightly had to have his teeth cleaned and the evil vet found a problem - a cavity. So, he had to have a tooth removed. This was bad for him in a couple of ways. First, he was in some pain, but evil vet did send home something called pain medicine to help with that. She also sent some other medicine called ant-eye-by-ah-tiks for him. Since I have never been on any kind of medicine, I don't know what it's like to have a pill shoved down my throat 2 times a day, but it really doesn't look fun. Those ant-eye-by-ah-tiks cause another problem...a litter box problem. The litter box has been more smelly than usual, and Knightly doesn't hide what he has done in the litter box like Lizzie and I do. Knightly has not had dingleberries, but he has managed to step in a smelly spot while doing his business. He didn't have a butt bath like Edsel's sister, but more of a back leg and belly rinse. He howled at Mum while she was cleaning up, and me being the good sister that I am, I had to watch while sitting on the lid of the human litterbowl. Mum also noticed that he got some spots all over the bathtub and the wall. She says she may have to repaint that part of the wall.

All of us will be glad when Knightly finishes those ant-eye-by-ah-tiks tomorrow.

Mom got out the carrier thingy today. This is not a good sign. Dental work was mentioned when she brought it out of the closet. She says that since I am the oldest, I have to have my teeth cleaned first. The only good thing about it is that the girls will have to have their teeth cleaned too at some point. She also mentioned something about me getting chipped. I am not sure what she means, but she said she wanted to wait to have it done while I am sedated. If she thinks that the evil vet is going to get anywhere near me with a needle, she's got another thing coming. I have been extra good here so that I can be extra bad at the vet. (Mom: he'll be microchipped while he's out for the cleaning)

Thanks for all of the purrs, headbutts, and good wishes. There is nothing more soothing than having a purring cat (or three) snuggled with you. The rest of the weekend was much better than Friday and yesterday, the engine light in the car went off. And, I will get the stitches taken out on Monday. Mom's Bad Day

Our Mom had a bad day, yesterday. It started off with her sleeping too late. This isn't a big deal in that her job is very flexible and she can even work from home (and we love it when she does). This is where it would be helpful for her to let us sleep with her at night. So what if we would wake her up 20 times a night. She would definitely be up by 6 am when we start pawing at her to get our breakfast.

Then while she was at work, she had big problems with a program she has to work on. She can't get it to work right and so she missed her deadline. That means that she will have to work on it this weekend. Part of the reason that she missed her deadline was that she hurt her hand. Mom says she was frustrated with her program; so, she needed a break and went for a walk with her co-worker. While they were walking, Mom fell, landed on her hand, and cut it open. She had to go to the bean vet to have them look at it. She said that the bean vet made her hand not hurt so much and got out lots of road dirt. Then, she got 5 steeches. We're not sure what those are, but it sounds like they put string in her hand to tie up the cut. String is to play with, not hold skin together - what was that bean vet thinking? We did have to do a thorough sniff of her hand as it smelled funny. Here's a picture of her hurt hand.

She spent a few hours at the bean vet which made her late coming home to feed us. It also made her late going to a baseball game with Finnegan & Buddy's Mom. She got there after the game had already started and used her cell phone to call their mom so she could get in. But, she was calling the wrong number; so she never got to talk to their Mom. She decided to come back home and on the way, the car's enjun light came on. We're not sure what that means, but she says she will have to watch it and see if it turns off. If it goes back off, then she won't have to take it to the car fixer.

Mom decided to lay on the sofa and watch some Grey's Anatomy. So, the 3 of us curled up on her and started purring to make her feel better and she really liked that. We hope your beans had a better day than our Mom.

Thanks for all of the birthday wishes - I got a whole can of Salmon stinky goodness for breakfast and treats all day long!

Now, onto today's topic. My sisters are getting strange as they "mature". Lizzie has started letting Mom rub her tummy. Firenze has always been weird and an attention whore (I'm not sure what that is, but Mom calls her that), but now they are spending a lot of time in the carrier thingy. Mom has been lazy and hasn't put it away from when she took us to the vet a couple of weeks ago. So it has been sitting on our bed in "Mom's office."

First, Firenze started hanging out and taking naps in it.

Then, one day, I saw Lizzie going in the carrier thingy and booting Firenze out.

Now, I am all for taking over a comfy spot (like Dolce), but the carrier thingy? Come on! What are they thinking?!? Mom doesn't need to have it easy when it comes time to put one of us in there.

But, here's the evidence that Lizzie is doing it too:

Sigh, I have tried to teach them how to be cats, but they just don't follow a good example. Mom has even been reading Max's book to us and they still don't get it!

I guess there's no hope for them now.

My purresent came from Beau. I didn't know there was a package for me because the mailman didn't leave a note in the mailbox. Mom went to the apartment office to pick up a different package and she brought back my Secret Paws present.

We got a package today and Mom says that Max's books are in there. She didn't even tell us that she had ordered them. She said that she wanted it to be a surprise and it was! They look great! Mom even says that our names are in the red book - there's a page where Max dedicated the book to all of his blogging friends and our names are there! Thanks Max - that's just too cool and you are the reason that many of us cool cats started blogging. Mom says that she will start reading the books to us tonight. The book on the right was written by Max's Woman and it's for our Mom. She says that she'll start reading it this weekend.

We were going to post some pictures but blogger is doing funny stuff so we will have to post them later.

She's back!!

Mom is home!!!! And, boy are we glad. Mom knew we would be happy to see her, but we were incredibly happy when she showed up since we hadn't eaten the entire time she was gone.

Yes, you read that correctly. We didn't eat for over 2 weeks.

There was a ,er, miscommunication between her and the petsitter. Luckily for us, Mom didn't put the lid down on the toilet so that we could still get water. She was very upset when she got home on Sun night and first thing on Monday, she took us to the evil vet to be checked out. We didn't get to see Dr Beth but we saw Dr Phil. He took blood from all of us and we are just fine considering. We all lost weight and Mom says we needed it, but this was not the way she wanted it done.

Finn & Buddy, we want y'all to move here soon so that then next time Mom goes out of town, your Mom can come visit us!

Onto other news, Mom said that she tooks lots of pictures of really big cats for us. They look really cool and some of the boys even have big furry manes! Some of the others have spots and are long and skinny. She saw lions, cheetahs, and leopards while she was there. Firenze asked if she saw tigers too, but Mom says that they are on a different continent. Mom said that she got some cat porn too, but we don't know what this is and she was laughing when she said it so we are suspicious. We will have her start posting some pictures and we will start with the lioness below. ~~Knightly

Lizzie: Well, Mom is going to Aff-ree-ka tomorrow morning. She is going to some place called Ken-yah and another called Tan-za-nee-ya. She says that she'll be gone for over 2 weeks! Um, hello Mom? Your job is to stay here and take care of us. Yes, we know that Ana the petsitter is coming over while you are gone, but we would rather have you.

Mom: I will miss y'all too, but you know that I like to travel and I can't pass up a chance to see some really big cats. Hopefully, I can get a picture of one to show you when I get back.

Knightly: Wait a minute! No more cats! I don't need any more siblings!

Mom: I will only bring pictures home on the camera. The government frowns upon animal smuggling. Besides, you three are enough.

Firenze: You are coming back, right?

Mom: Of course! And, I will wave to Fat Eric and Pandora & Charlie while I am going through London's Heathrow airport.

Firenze: Okay then.

Evil Vet Report

Well, I survived.

Since Finn and Buddy asked, Mom takes us to Park Vet Hospital in Durham since it's the closest to our place. Dr Beth was actually really nice to me (Mom: she's always nice to you!) Anyway, she said that I could go down to having one puff a day (Mom: he is talking about his inhaler for his asthma). Mom is happy since that means our petsitter Ana will only have to come by once a day while Mom is in Aff-ree-ka. We like Ana, but we would rather have Mom at home with us.

However... (there had to be a catch somewhere)

Pre-dental blood-werk was mentioned during the visit. I don't like the sound of pre-dental or blood-werk. Dr Beth says that they have to check my blood since I am on ster-oids and that I need to have my teeth cleaned. My teeth get cleaned when I eat crunchy food and that is enough. I don't need a human to clean them for me. As for the steriods, they keep me from hacking up my lungs and it's working just fine, so I don't need to be stabbed. The bad thing is that Mom agrees with Dr Beth.

I also had to get some kind of special shot. They didn't actually stab me but dropped some stuff into my eyes and then up my nose (Mom: the distemper vaccine). I didn't like the nose bit, so I snorted it all over Dr Beth's hands. She still gave me chin skritches, though.

Sigh, maybe she will change her mind about the blood-werk and teeth cleaning while she is in Aff-ree-ka, but I am not holding my breath.

Nap-a-thon Report

Thank you Patches & Mittens for hosting the First Annual Napathon! We had a great time. It was great to meet all of our blogging friends. Mom took pictures of us napping and she didn't even know that we were gone! We really pulled one over on our human. The best was finally being able to try stinky goodness. We are going to work on brainwashing our Mom to get us some. We'll let you know how it goes.

No food....

You think you have your Mom trained, and she forgets what she's supposed to do.

We watched the food bin get really low all week. Did she get any food on her way home from work? No. Saturday morning, she feeds us, barely. Not enough food left to give a cat a meal. Saturday during the day, she runs around doing all kinds of "er runds", and even brings home human food, which she won't let us have. Saturday night comes around and she says "Are you hungry?" These are trigger words that let us know it's dinner time. All three of us come running and Mom goes into the pantry.

And comes out empty-handed.

She finally remembers that we need food. Now, she did leave immediately to get us food (Mom: thankfully, there is a Petco only 2 miles away). However, you don't tease cats like that! That was mean! Maybe we need to sell her like Kukka and Brach are doing with their Mom. How much are Moms worth anyway?

Knightly: Notice she didn't run out of my food.

Lizzie: But she still didn't feed you until after she got home with our food.

Mom: I confess, I forgot. I had to wait until I got paid on Friday anyway. There is plenty of food now.

Firenze: Mum, we'll forgive you this time, but don't let it happen again!

Don't forget to purray for Crystal who had a to make an emergency trip to the vet. She has kidney failure and they put an IV in her and a catheter (yuck!).

You are 6 years old and it seems like yesterday when I adopted you from the Shelby County humane Shelter in Alabama. You were and still are such a sweet, loving girl who likes to chew on my hair when it's wet. You're the only one who lets me rub your soft, furry belly.

We claim the bed! It's ours and you can't have it. Notice that we have strategically placed ourselves along the edge of the bed. This is our favorite bed as it is placed next to the best window.

And this is my sleeping box. Mom, you are not allowed to send the computer to be recycled as I have claimed the box too. I am even nice enough to share it with my sisters on occasion.

My little girl is 5 years old! I can't believe it's been that long already. You were only 5 weeks old when you were found trying to climb into a dryer vent that cold, cold January. I am so glad that you were brought to me instead of going to a shelter. I love it when you sleep in my lap and when you hug me from behind. You are my pretty girl and lapcat and I don't know what I would do without you!

Well, I am finally able to post again. Mom has been "werking" quite a lot so the 'puter has not been available for us to post.

Well, I went to the evil vet and actually she was nice to me so I had to be nice to her. The one thing I didn't like was that they shaved me around my hot spot so that my fur wouldn't stick to it. And, I had to take "ant biotics" for 2 weeks to make sure that I healed up good. Thankfully, those pills are over and the crappy collar is off of me but Mom is now giving me another pill, something called "ant hist meen". Also, when the girls went, they got off easy. They only got one shot but the other they had to snort up their noses. Firenze sneezed and sprayed it all over the vet.

We are having fun now because our Grammy and Opa are here. We need to teach them how to be better cat spoilers, though. Mom says that they aren't used to being around cats so they don't know the proper procedure. We still have time to train them!

We hope that all of our friends had a great Thanksgiving and I will leave off with at picture of me in my favorite window.

Mom called the evil vet since she found a large "hot spot" on me only 30 minutes before she went to the airport on Thursday. Maybe I can be like Max and learn to poop at will. I know that I can pee at will because I have done it many times. But I want to be a Poop King too. My only consolation is that she is taking the girls tomorrow for their 'shots'. I am glad that I am not the only one that will be tortured.

Mom got a new "card" for her camera and had to play with it. She wanted to see how it would do before she goes to a friend's wedding in Jamaica. Mom said we couldn't go but that our very nice petsitter would come visit us while she is gone. Where is Jamaica?

Firenze watches the geese out of the window. This is our favorite window in the apartment since the bed is right next to it; this way we can alternate between napping and birdwatching with out moving too much.

Lizzie here, I got Mom to help me post some other pictures of us.

This one is of Knightly on the balcony. He likes to chew on Mom's plants which makes her rather unhappy, especially when he throws up the leaves afterwards. He is named after a character from the book Emma by Jane Austen (she is one of Mom's favorite writers). Mom's nicknames for him are Handsome and if she's mad at him, Fat B... (she says think of Austin Powers 2).

This is Knightly when he had to wear his elizabethan collar. He has some hot spots because of his asthma/allergies and he wouldn't stop licking one of them. So Mom took him to the poking place and he was one very ticked off cat when the vet put that on him. Mom's co-workers called it his satellite dish.

Me, the beautiful Lizzie. I was the first tuxedo cat that Mom got. She got me from a humane shelter when I was 7 weeks old because I am sooooo cute. I am named after Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice which is one of Mom's all time favorite books. Her nicknames for me are Lizzie girl, Pillow Princess, and Sun Goddess. The top of refrigerator is my favorite place especially when Mom is putting up the groceries

And this is Firenze. Mom got her from a former co-worker that found her trying to climb into the dryer vent one very cold January. The co-worker was going to take her to the pound but Mom said that she would bring Firenze to stay with us. I didn't mind it too much, but Knightly was ticked off at Mom for a good 8-9 months. He really likes me but just tolerates Firenze. Mom named her after a character from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - did you notice the literary theme here? Mom's nicknames for her are Pretty girl, Spawn of the Devil, and Little Sh_t.

Well, let us introduce ourselves. We are Knightly, Lizzie and Firenze aka the Monsters! Mom calls us that since we like to get into trouble. She has other nicknames for us as well but we won't mention those just yet.

This is our first foray into the world of computers. We though that we would try it since we see Mom on the 'puter all the time. We will get her to post pictures soon and to make the site look cool.
